THE GREENING
The rays of sunlight glancing
off the flat surface of the pond,
soft breezes caressing new rushes like
unseen fingers stroking the hair
of a newborn,
the unfurling green of the lotus,
lying flat and round on the water
dark beneath,
the whispering of young cattails
bobbing on the banks,
the morning glory vine
scrambling up the rotted oak,
willow saplings with budding leaves
that soften whip-like branches,
speared irises poking through the mud,
each new bit of green is a vision
that falls pleasantly on the eye,
brought together in natural aristry
that quiets the mind
and catches the breath.

Did I miss the arrival of spring?

Spring
When is winter done
I so long to see the sun
Oh dreary dark gray
When will you go away
Where in God's heaven
Is release
The Colors of Spring
Like a newborns lullaby
rainbow sunbeams caress the landscape
giving a soft flush of color
to a stark and
She came softly,
My friend Spring.
She saw me, cold and alone.
She could not stand to see me cry.
One bright morning
I woke to
by Darkwing
Turn of the Wheel, begin again with the season of rebirth,
Bulbs and corms push up their shoots from underneath the earth
