Self esteem issues in teenagers

IT STARTS FROM THE INSIDE OUT

Being a teenager isn't easy, even though you may think your parents just don't understand you. The truth is, no matter how out of style and out of date your parents are, they have been in your shoes before. When your parents try to give you advice, try to keep in mind that they are doing this to save you from heartaches that they

themselves have gone through. Due to all the pressures placed on teens today, it is easy to become overwhelmed by life choices. You may find yourself confused about things and you will start to think you aren't good enough.

You have to realize that people do not stop growing physically or mentally until they have graduated from high school. You may also have a poor emotional health as an adult if you do not understand how to tackle your emotions as an adolescent. You may feel like you aren't smart enough, pretty enough, or like you just don't fit in. These feelings are normal. What may not be "normal", is how you handle these feelings of inferiority.

You need to understand that you are unique. The person you are in high school contributes a little to the person you will be when you become an adult. However, there are many obstacles to face in adulthood that will also mold you into a normal
functioning person in society. Your looks will continuously change well into adulthood. Most people look totally different at their 5 and 10 year high school reunions as compared to when they were in school. Your looks will be something that is ever changing and you shouldn't feel down and out because of the way you look. You will never feel like you look good on the outside until you can feel better about yourself on the inside.

I believe that every high school student should have to see a counselor at least once a week. Teens have many problems that are hard to deal with on their own. They should be able to open up to someone who understands the human psyche. When you are a teen, your mind is still developing as well as your understandings of society, and the world in general. With the onset of puberty and raging hormones, a teen often doesn't see the big picture. Instead, they are trying to control their bodies and urges and are often comparing themselves to other people their age. When you begin to compare
yourself, you begin to lose confidence in the person that you are.

If you are a teen who is dealing with a troubled past, you need to be able to let those emotions out and then put them behind you. You cannot let past
