Commentary: Karl Rove's resignation

"There is only one Karl Rove."

Julius Caesar Watts, former Oklahoma congressman

Well that is the good news. This republic can't handle more than one Karl Rove. One can only hope that people who have his level of contempt for the voting public and the truth itself are the rarest of beasts. Most Americans can put up with the occasional overblown promise and the idle corruption that accompanies most politicos. However Rove's politics, a slash and burn, "you're either with us, or your treasonous," philosophy took things to an ugly level that causes one to taste salt and copper in the mouth. There hasn't been an operative before or since, on a national scale, that tried to dis-enfranchise the number of citizens that he did.

And now he has deserted the sinking ship of the George W. Bush administration. When the news was first broadcast the feeling here was that he was hiring onto either the budding campaigns of Fred Thompson, or the equally cruel and nefarious, Newt Gingrich.

However, book deals are rumored and Rove claims to be wanting to spend more time with his wife and college aged son. Well there is an argument for that. After all, if some publisher offered O.J. Simpson a deal, then there is no doubt a fat advance could be waiting for him somewhere. Besides, it maybe best to lay low for awhile. Yes, keep a diminished profile and take the time to explain all this monsterous behavior in reasonable terms. Make sure the faithful and others know that the motives were pure, even if the means were dastardly and vile.

Besides, there is plenty of time. Thanks to the wanks at places like CNN and FOX, this presidential campaign was launched about a year too soon. There is still time to hook onto the sparkling tail of a rising star and follow him back to the west wing of the white house.

No, we as a nation are not finished with Mr. Rove. To paraphrase the current Governor of California in several movies, "he'll be back." He has a taste for this sort of business, much like a tiger who realizes how easy it is to take down and feed on a human.

Bush's Brain may have left the building, but an encore is immanent. If not within the year, then certainly during the next bout, especially if Hillary Rodham Clinton takes up residence at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.
