I cannot believe that people actually have put this question up for debate. I am a sixteen year old girl and I am firmly against the idea of underage children getting abortions on their own. If you are not considered responsible enough to vote how can you make an even bigger, more life-changing decision on your own?
First is first, abortion should be illeagal. Killing an innocent child because of your own decision to have sexual intercourse when you knew it could result in a child is ridiculous. (I am also a devout Catholic and have conservative views)
Now to keep religion completely out of this, even if you believe it is perfectly acceptable to have abortions, it is not for a child/teenager/young adult to decide. If you are under 18 and live under your paren'ts roof you cannot make that kind of decision on your own. Besides, you don't know if the parents would be more than willing to raise the daughter's child. You also don't know how the parents parent and every good parent is going to want to AT LEAST express their opinion on this issue to their daughter.
The emotional turmoil of regret that many feel after abortions is also something to consider. Even if it was rape, the young adult's emotional state is so fragile do you want to harm it more? And if it was rape, then that is up to the paren'ts disscrestion.
If a sixteen year old is living on their own, have their own job, can support themselves than it can be their decision. But for now, if they are under 18, cannot vote and live under their parent's roof than the parents need to have the ultimate say.
