I have been introduced to a white Verdicchio wine from the LeMarche region of Italy located in Apiro, Macerata. The name is "Verdicchio di Jesi classico IL Cantico della Figura." The wine is from the Felici family and can be found in fine restaurants in America. I am guessing the retail value may be between $15-$30 a bottle and up at $60 in restaurants. Served chilled, it pairs well with shell fish Risotto, white Frutti di Mare and/or fried seafood. It is full bodied, yet clean and very tasteful. I was given a box of six from a friend and was advised to drink within a year. Well, they were gone in a week.
I also found a gem when I lived in Santa Barbara, California. Sanford Sauvignon Blanc from Santa Rita! This wine has citrus notes, but it is not sweet. It still holds up as a structurally sound Sauvignon. It rivals Cakebread Sauvignon Blanc at a less expensive price. Although, the suggested retail price is $14.00, you may have to dish out about $20. Still worth it! You can find the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay on the east coast, but I must admit, the Sauvignon Blanc is difficult to find.
