As an investigator into the paranormal, I hear many stories, some send shivers down your spine. Others strike fear into you. Who do you turn to for help?. Hopefully an accredited investigator. My father a church minister, and member of the churches fellowship for Psychical and Spiritual Studies, was a great inspiration to me, which opened the doors for me to develop my interest, giving me the opportunity to front a ghost hunting program on BBC Radio Leeds. from which my story is based.
I received an urgent message to visit a house in York. There for the first time I met the lady of the house frantic with fear, she looked about sixty, nervous, and uneasy, she invited me in and started to show me around her house.
There was scenes of chaos, and devastation every where. A grandfather clock lay face downwards on the dinning room floor,left where it fell. Pictures strewn about, glass broken, cushions thrown about, the carpet pulled up, from under the furniture that had been on it. I had never seen anything like it before, the place was in a state of siege.
The front bedroom had been used as a spare room, in which a heavy wardrobe had been toppled forward, and was now leaning against the chimney-breast, doors had been wrenched off two sideboards, their contents thrown about the floor, a pile of broken crockery lay in a heap, along with clothing, the room was a complete mess.
I was told that she had also suffered in previous weeks, spontaneous outbreaks of fire, flying ornaments, paper ripped up and scattered like confetti curtains opening and closing on their own, this woman was in tears, frightened and begging for help.
On investigating the history of the house, and the family, certain facts came to light,The lady inherited the house when her husband died about eight years ago, her elder sister came to live with her, about a year before the disturbances started, along with a family friend they moved in, the arrangement worked well, until the tendency of the two new arrivals, began to elbow the owner out and treat her as if she was not there, working nights meant the lodgers more or less took over.
A nephew came to stay with his aunt, who had been a good friend to her and his uncle. His arrival brought resentment from the other guests, which started to bring an atmosphere of bitterness and mistrust into the house.
As my investigation proceeded it came clear that the damage to things had been targeted to items that belonged to the two lodgers, damage to anybody else's
