I honestly don't think that they have the players nor the depth of talent to break into what can only be described as the elite of English football. Whilst a lot is said of the formidable striking ability that 'Spurs have, there is a lot more needed to overhaul the "big 4" than an unit of good strikers. Take for instance, the ability of their midfield. Other than the talented winger Aaron Lenner, there's no-one there that screams "I'm going to be able to win you a game". Sure, players such as Jermaine Jenas and Teemu Tainio aren't bad and are definitely of Premiership quality, they're nearly as good as the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ryan Giggs, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard. I could go on...

The problem with Tottenham doesn't stop at their midfield. Anyone who saw the game against Sunderland on Saturday will be able to testify that the 'Spurs defence is not up to scratch. Fair enough they were without their talisman at the back in Ledley King and his fellow England colleague Michael Dawson, but I can see them relying on Paul Robinson far too much this season.

Lastly comes the main problem in my opinion. Who is there in the top 4 that Tottenham could possibly usurp? Arsenal, are the obvious choice among punters after the loss of Henry to Barcelona, but personally, I think that Arsenal are as good, if not better than Liverpool. They've managed to hang on to one of the best managers in modern football in Arsene Wenger, whilst also having some of the best youngsters in their ranks with the likes of Fabregas, van Persie, Clichy and so on.

So in a nutshell, no, I don't think that Tottenham will make the ascent into the top 4 of English football, due to the lack of strength in the midfield and defence and the superiority of the other teams they are attempting to defeat.
