Environmentalism is an important issue right now and many families are wondering how they can change to live more eco-friendly. Some worry that only large changes in lifestyle help the environment. However there are many small changes that you can make to be more environmentally friendly. By making only a few small changes any family can be on their way towards greener living.
The easiest and most known change any family can make is to begin recycling. Recycling materials such as plastic, glass, paper, and aluminum is a great benefit for the environment. When we recycle our waste it is reused in new ways, keeping less trash out of landfills and less pollution out of our lives. Even if you do not have a recycling center near you you can help by buying recycled products and reusing them yourself. Turn plastic milk containers into bird feeders or keep the glass jars that pickles come to reuse for storage. Also look at what products you are buying and choose products that can be reused rather than tossed out. Using cloth towels instead of paper towels in the home is a small change that can have a huge benefit for the environment. The less trash you generate the more eco-friendly you family is.
You can also be more "green" while you go shopping. A few small changes in how you shop can do wonders for the environment. Reduce the amount of waste generated by using reusable shopping bags. You can reuse the plastic bags that most stores bag groceries with or buy reusable bags to fit your needs. There are many different styles and sizes available that merge function with fun. Some stores are now offering discounts on your purchases when you bring your own reusable bags. You can also reduce waste buy choosing fresh products that have less packaging. Buying fresh fruits and vegetables rather than prepackaged ones not only reduces the waste you are generating, it will also benefit your family's health. A simple way to make sure you are getting fresh is to shop locally. Buying from local farmer's will help you to find fresh foods with little packaging and also reduce the amount of fuel that was used to ship the food to you.
