A voluntary army is not sufficient in order to support our country. The draft is an essential key to increasing our military strength. I do not think that the draft should only be for men though; women should be on the list too. I know alot of you are saying no way; but, equal rights are equal rights.
The draft is essential in the fact it keeps our military strong. The draft could be structured much as the volunteer is in the fact a person could be given a choice of MOS,or jobs, in the military. One would not have to necessarily be drafted for the infantry or tanker corps. If this was the case women could be drafted as well. If they chose to go infantry, hey! I am for it.
I hate wars as much as the nest person or more. Just think though, the enemy has come back to us in America. They came to New York just like the Japanese did in Hawaii. We have a downsized military to blame for that. The budget cuts should have never went so far. Force is freedom regardless of what we think. A large, strong military carries more weight than a small weak one. And freedom is what we stand for.
I have met alot of 17 and 18 year olds that don't know what they want out of life as well as alot who want college and go just to find they don't like the career they have chosen. It is this writers opinion and that of others that the military can help. A two year tour of duty with the military can give a young person an insight into the world. It is a way to get training, learn respect and develop leadership qualities that noone can't argue would help in college or the workplace.
At the same time it would increase our military strength and would even help those troops who are in the services now. If the military had not been cut in the 80's and 90's we wouldn't have men and women constantly rotating back into combat zones. There would be more soldiers to help therefore there would be more happy soldiers and families.
If I were called tomorrow I would be there and there are several who feel this way. Although be it, there are some who would rather sit back and enjoy the freedoms without the price. To you I say only in America could you do this. Vote for America, vote for freedom, vote for the draft.
