Dissemination is the name used to describe the period in Siddhartha Gautama (The Buddha)life from the time of the enlightenment and first teaching up until his death. This was a period of about 45 years of his life, and as the title Dissemination suggests Buddha made every attempt to impart his knowledge to as many people and over as great an area as possible. To aid with the spread of knowledge he recruited followers which eventually became the Sangha, the first community of Buddhist monks.
For the whole of the Dissemination process Buddha lived an itinerant life and shunned all possessions, living off the charity of those he taught. Anyone who wanted to join his following had to do the same, and follow his example of poverty and strict morality. He continued traveling and teaching right up until his death at the age of eighty.
