Have you ever heard an idea so stupid that you love America a little less?
Enter "Cavemen", a sitcom based on a popular (and I use the term in the same way it applies to foot funguses) GEICO commercial with politically correct cavemen.
On the plus side, it's hard to imagine it'll be any worse than Pamela Anderson's "Stacked." But for those of us who yearn for the days of intelligent sitcoms like "Arrested Development" and "NewsRadio," this isn't exactly a good direction to be moving in.
Kitschy, premise-driven comedies like this generally rely on one or two jokes-go ahead and start counting how many times you hear "so easy a caveman could do it"-and deny themselves the intellectual and emotional growth of their characters. They're stymied by poor production, three cameras and bad laughtracks. They're stupid, disorganized, and immensely unsuccessful, thrown into our society by suits with big egos who've convinced themselves that they're doing something bold.
So, yeah, I'm not looking forward to it. It'll be canceled pretty quickly, and we'll all forget about it. But hey, it's not all bad news-I DID save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to GEICO.
Oh, what a lame joke to end on.
