SOMETHING COMPELS ME
Something compels me
to write down the words
which, spoken aloud,
would never be heard.
Something compels me
to spill out in ink
the wandering notions
I sometimes think.
The pen that I hold
is my outlet of choice.
It gives life to thought,
lends an alternate voice.
The paper beneath
has a listening ear,
accepting of everything
others won't hear.
Something inside me says
someone may care,
and might enjoy reading
the words that I share.
Something compels you
to understand,
to listen more closely
to what flows from the hand.
