abortions begin, it is time for us to re-consider the concept of abortion. Laws are beginning to reflect emerging consensus that the unborn child is most certainly alive and human. Convictions for child abuse of unborn babies and criminal penalties for those who injure unborn children are becoming more frequent. We should also remove the focus on abortion being a woman's choice or the implications of a man's involvement emotionally, choice wise, or divergently; with a view to compromise.
Focus should be centered on what has gone wrong with the family unit, marriage and relationships, why children seem such a financial and emotional baggage' to couples and often become a defining moment of their commitment or otherwise, why there are so many single mothers these days and why despite efforts of increasing awareness and free contraception in many parts of the world un wanted/ accidental' pregnancies still occur. Despite all the endless head lines alluded to abortion, its justification or not, the truth is; the woman is greatly affected by it.
It was understated by Dr. Wanda Franz when he was testifying before a Congressional hearing on the impact of abortion that at least 19% of women who abort go through post abortion stress syndrome. This figure is much bigger than this and the scary part of this is what the syndrome involves. The main features are reported nightmares of the abortion, terrible psychological pain, feelings of worthlessness and victimization because the women feel they failed at the most natural of human activities, the role of being a mother.
Regardless of what the stakes are and whose decision it is to abort, it is time the right of the unborn child to be at the forefront of any debate regarding abortion. The Catholic faith took a firm stance when the Vatican urged Catholics to stop donating money to Amnesty International because of its changed policy on abortions. The human rights organization said in April that women should have access to abortion services in cases of rape, incest or when pregnancy is a risk to the mother. But Cardinal Renato Martino called it a betrayal of Amnesty's goals of ensuring human rights around the world; might I add to right to life of an unborn baby.
As for men who believe they deserve a say in what becomes of their sperm with conception/ abortion; unfortunately what the woman wants to do with her body seems to over ride any sentiment they will come up with, even the right to life of the child. However, as regards
