Book reviews: The Time Traveler's Wife, by Audrey Niffeneger

Audrey Niffenegger's love story "The Time Traveler's Wife" presents a plot with characters that go straight to your heart. Immediately you feel connected to Henry and Claire as if they were real people because they seem as if they are real except-Henry is different. Henry is a time traveler and has a genetic disease that causes him to do so at inconvenient times.

When he meets Clare, she is 6 and Henry is 36. Upon each meeting, they meet either at the meadow on Clare's family property or downstairs in her family's reading room. Claire seems to know exactly when Henry will arrive because Henry writes the next date for her. When he leaves her, he goes back to his present or into the future. It's upon each meeting that they grow to know each other better, but upon each departing she misses him even worse.

When Claire is persistent is asking about the future, Henry is cautious about what he tells her. Henry knows everything that's going to happen, but he doesn't want her to become too worrisome. Finally, Claire becomes an adult and they begin dating. When Henry begins experimenting with drugs to make him stay in one place he nearly dies and scares Clare.

This novel is centered around a few of their best friends who are there for Henry & Clare when they have their daughter Alba. Alba has inherited Henry's genes and is a time traveler as well. As Henry's health starts to fail and doctors can't do anymore for him, he gives the doctor his daughter's DNA to be worked on. It's against Claire's values, but it's Henry's dying wish.

I was surprised by the ending of this book. It was excellent and unlike any other book I have read. I am hoping this author has more novels out soon because I will read them all. This is a novel I have suggested all I know read and enjoy.
