There is no positive way of knowing if your spouse is having an affair unless they admit it or you find concrete proof. But there are clues to look for to see if the possibility is there.

The cheating spouse often becomes more interested in their appearance...possibly working out, losing weight and dressing differently. Something as simple as using a new cologne may not be so innocent. They may attempt to convince it's all to please you.

Longer hours at work may be an excuse for the cheating spouse to stay out late. They suddenly don't spend as much time with you and are full of excuses for not doing so. Of course they want you to understand because it's work and they have no choice, but to stay late.

The loss of interest for intimacy could indicate that your spouse is being entertained elsewhere. On the other hand, some cheaters increase the level of intimacy with their partner out of guilt. Some begin to desire different things, becoming more adventurous.

Affairs can cut into the budget. Your spouse may be using credit cards more than usual or carrying extra cash.

If you have children, the cheating spouse may act differently towards them - maybe buying gifts they normally wouldn't out of guilt. Family time often decreases.

They may have difficulty looking you in the eyes like they once did. A cheater is a liar and liars have shifty eyes.

They become more secretive...going out of the room to make phone calls; closing out web pages when you come near the computer.

If something feels off, there's a good chance it is.

While any or all of these can indicate a spouse is having an affair, it doesn't mean they are. Look at the situation as objectively as possible before making accusations, but don't deny yourself knowing the truth.
