It was a dreary November night, snow earlier in the night kept most people in. Hunting was difficult on nights like this, few dared to leave the safety of their warm homes. I distinctly remember the wind blew cold in the city that night, it chilled even the dead's bones. I spotted her immediately as she rounded the corner to the ally-way: young, innocent, and scared. At every noise she flinched. Her eyes darted back and forth. What twist of fate had lead her to be out so late on a night as foul as this, I did not know. Nay, I did not care. She had come into my territory and was mine for the taking if I wished it.
I slipped from the roof down a ladder to the ground and hid in the shadows as she drew near. She was younger than I first thought: twenty if she was a day. Her smooth lily-white skin was directly opposite of her dark chestnut hair and deep brown eyes. She was like a china doll. I heard her pulse quicken. The vein in her neck beat in a rhythmic Thump- thump, Thump-thump. The smell of fear rose off her like a pungent perfume. I wanted nothing more than to sink my fangs in to her elegant neckline.
A man appeared in the ally-way. He followed the girl; stalking her like a cat does a mouse. I had neither seen nor heard him til he drew closer to the girl. He still smelled of grave dirt. Newly risen! I thought. He had no claim to this girl: she was mine. He did not care. The blood lust of the freshly risen had him and his prey was within reach. In such a state he would walk into the light of a noon day sun and not be able to stop himself. He came up behind her clamping her frail body to him. Her screams reverberated off the deserted ally walls as he drug her struggling to a nearby doorway out of sight of a passerby. He left his back to the ally.
I could not allow such an insult to go unpunished. I came up behind him as he went to strike and seized his neck in one hand and his arm in the other. I wrenched him off the girl effortlessly. The girl fell to the ground sobbing. Furious, he fought me, but he was mine no matter how much he fought. With a hard tug I ripped out his throat to the spine. "This is my territory!" I hissed to him. "Consider yourself warned. IF you so much step foot in my domain again I will kill you where you stand." He gasped for air through his ruined throat and nodded he understood. "Now, leave!" He, still holding his neck, rose and slowly hobbled back up the vacant ally.
