Professional wrestling in the world of sports

and tackle. They only play sixteen games during there regular season, because the sport is so physically demanding. They also play only one game a week. These guys get the luxury to wear all kinds of protective gear. They get to wear helmets to protect there heads. They also get to wear shoulder pads, pads for there hips, cups, gloves for when its cold out, long sleeves for the same purpose. These guys are supposed to be our big tough heroes. I am not trying to run this game down, but we put these guys up on a pedestal. Yet we scream foul if a pro wrestler takes a bump a second before getting his head taken off with a clothesline. That could be compared to a quarterback taking a slide before getting hit. He knows its coming, and he goes down to prevent getting hit.

Wrestlers don't get to take a time out during there match. I have seen matches were a wrestler is seriously hurt, but continues, or tries to continue the match. That people takes guts. More guts then some of these real athletes have. Besides do you think that it is a coincidence that a lot of football players choose pro wrestling if there career is over, or they are not getting the enjoyment out of playing football anymore. Its because they enjoy the physicality of it. It is a mental chess game in there as well. It challenges you, and your body. It pushes you to do things you didn't think your body was capable of doing. Oh yeah, and that ring that they wrestle on. That is not a trampoline people. That is metal bars, and wood with just a thin layer of padding on top, and it is all strapped down with a large canvas.

NASCAR:
This my friends is were I butt-heads with so many people. To me this is not a sport, and based on my definition it is not a sport. I have asked racing fans what makes this a sport? There responses vary. I have been told its because of the centrifugal force, or the G force. People come on now this is the by far the worse excuse for why this is a sport. If that is the reason then why don't they televise NASA space shuttle launches on ESPN? Knitting is more of a sport then auto racing. Oh, but there are still those people that say that it is a sport, because of the competition to cross the finish line first. If that is the case then why don't they air turtle races on ESPN? I'll tell you why. Its because of the danger factors that go along with it. It draws so much interest, because there is always the element of death, or injury involved.

In wrestling this danger factor is a part of every day life for these guys. They know that every time they step through those ropes it could be the last. I would like to close this out by saying this. The darker, and sad side of this business is this. By the end of so many wrestler's careers they have had knee replacement surgery, hip replacement surgery, and in a lot of cases they have had to have there spinal cord fused. In the deaths of many of these great athletes it is the case of some kind of overdose. Normally it is some kind of pain killer from all of the years of abuse they endure through out there careers. One last thing that I would like to leave you with is an old saying "This ain't ballet." This is just something for you to think about the next time you want to say that this is not a real sport, or how fake it is.
