A visitor's guide to Los Angeles' best destination spas

While California offers the most "destination spas" in the United States, Los Angeles certainly offers the most elegant and upscale "destination spas" in California. If you are looking for a place where you might have to spend a little money, but where you'll be treated like one of the "Stars", then read on for a short list of some of the best places to send your time in Los Angeles.

"The Peninsula Spa and Resort" in Beverley Hills is certainly a property which is both discreet and comfortable. From the moment you make your reservation, you'll be treated like the "god" or "goddess" that you are. From the immaculate grounds, including a rooftop pool with private poolside cabanas, to the tasteful and yet highly inspiring guest rooms, that feature down comforters and the highest quality bath linens, you will be immersed in an experience that will take your breath away. Oh, and if you want to hitch a ride to Tiffany's, one of the resorts "Rolls-Royce's" will be happy to drive you there and back!

"The Four Seasons Spa" in Los Angeles is a 4000 square foot facility that continues to impress when it comes to the quantity and the quality of services that it provides. There are several state of the art saunas and steam rooms, relaxation pools, 8 treatment rooms and a staff that is not only knowledgeable, but worried about nothing but your comfort. In true "four seasons" style, essential oils designed to emulate the current season are used in all treatments; California pink pepper and vanilla are perfect in autumn; blue spruce, cedarwood and petit grain provide protection from the harsh cold of winter; lavender, grapefruit and lemon renew in the spring; and sweet orange, rose and jasmine indulge in the summer.

"The Aris Institute" located in Westlake Village, is perhaps the most cutting edge of all spa experiences. They rely on the idea of "energy balancing" through clinical spa treatments that are designed to enhance your body and your mind. Though this all seems a bit stuffy and "doctor-like", this spa is really very laid-back and has an undeniable "Zen" feeling about it. You will be educated in the finer points of Biomechanics while you indulge in the incredible facility which boasts an array of treatment packages too lengthy to list. This is truly the epitome of "clinical spa experiences" that make a distinct and immediate difference in the body.

"Spa Mystique" at the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles is a 35,000 square foot monster of a spa which draws upon Asian influences in both architecture are treatment options. There are two Japanese "furo" pools as well as 27 Indoor treatment rooms for everything from massage to a detoxifying clay treatment. This is certainly one of the gems of the Los Angeles Spa Scene!

"The Beverly Hills Hotel Spa by La Prairie" is located in famed Beverly Hills. While this spa is a bit on the pricey side, it is certainly worth the experience. It is frequented a little more by the older, local crowd and treatments range from a wonderful Swedish massage to a cutting edge facial. This spa is all about luxury!
