In my opinion, cell phone providers should not hold customers to long contracts. I feel that if a company were indeed as technologically advanced and spectacular as they claim, a long term contract would not be necessary. A customer would stay out of satisfaction rather than the fear of consequences for cancelling the contract. Perhaps cell phone companies should concentrate more on keeping up with technology, making it easier to upgrade services than tying customers to a two year agreement, while not charging the rates that a pay as you go plan provides.

I have felt taken advantage of by cell phone companies in the past, signing up feeling as though I had gotten the very best deal only to find out within the first three months that things were not as they appeared in the "supposed" contract. Most cell companies retain the right to change policies with no consequences to them while if you cancel, there is a large fee. This is not fair to the customer.
If the customer is happy, it is safe to assume that there would be recommendation to friends, co-workers, and family. This could only be good for business while customer dissatisfaction would obviously bring the opposite result.

Long service agreements protect only the cell phone company while giving no real regard to the paying customer. I think in running any business, the needs of the customer should come first in order to be successful.
