Poetry: Being trapped

CAGED

Why can't you just leave me alone?
Give me time to myself to be on my own

Your constant nagging drills through my head
I can't stand to listen to anything you've said

You over-react and believe I'm wrong
But I'm breaking away for the freedom I long

I love you God knows, but you're up in my face
You want me trapped here forever in this place

There's less talking and more action to do
It's time I stopped getting controlled by you

I know that you care, but in the wrong way it seems
I need to be my own person and follow my dreams

You can't lock me up and throw away the key
It's my time now to start living for me

I know that you doubt, that you just don't believe
But I shall be successful in what I set out to achieve

I'm sorry I can't live in the way you set out
But it's not healthy for me to be shrouded in doubt

I love you, you know, and it's always been true
But I can't be caged in anymore by you

In my mind, as in my soul,
    A darkness lay I don't control.

A cage of man, which is not me.
    A want to fit society.
