Tips for finding an aesthetician school

While doing your search for a school, you need to know what an esthetician is supposed to learn. Curriculums well vary slightly from school to school but the general course requirements should be closely related.

As an esthetician student you will learn the history of skin care, chemistry (equivalent to what you learned in high school), Anatomy and Physiology of the skin, skin disorders and diseases, proper sanitation methods, basic facial and body treatment procedures, (including manicures, pedicure and body wraps.) Make up theory and how to apply make up, hair removal methods, aromatherapy treatments and how to apply permanent make up.

Each state varies some to the amount of hours spent in a classroom and in a clinical setting. The average is 600-750 hours to receive a degree as a Basic Esthetician and 1200-1500 hours for a Master Esthetician.

The first and most important thing you will want to do while searching for a school is to find one in the state you want to work in. All Estheticians must be licensed to work.

Secondly decide if you want to go with the basic or master program, once you have completed the basic and become licensed you can continue on for your master status.

Once you find a school, call them and ask for information. Most are more than happy to send it right out to you. If you a few general questions its okay to ask on the phone, but to tie someone up for 20 minutes, isn't the best way to go about it seeing how most of your questions will be answered in the material they send to you. If after you have read through it and you have questions call and set up an appointment with a counselor.

Make sure you go and visit the school; you can learn a lot by observing.

You can visit the website www.beautyschools.com for a complete state by state alphabetically list of schools. Most have a website, with general information and a place to request even more information.
