Marriage and debts

Yes, this is a principle of marriage. When you make vows to each other, you become one in all aspects. There is no longer my money or your money, it becomes OURS. The best way to avoid debt problems that occured before a couple decides on marriage is to pay off those debts before you walk down that isle. It will save a lot of financial frustrations for a newly married couple. You may have to wait a few more years, but if your love and committment to each other is already strong, it will survive while paying off individual debts. Now, if the wedding is already in plan and the debt is still looming for one or both, realize that you will both have to make a committment to help pay off those debts together. Try not to incur more debt because of wedding expenses, new items (you might think you need), new cars... etc...

The reality is that many marriages fail because of financial problems and the couple fails to see eye to eye about living in harmony with a together budget. There is still a longing to hold onto individual spending and this does not work in a marriage. Of course there should be an allotted spending allowance for both husband and wife that is decided on each month, but all cost of living should be paid for together, no matter who makes more or less money.
Marriages that make it are people who compliment each in all ways, so it has to be financially also. Agreeing to spending and living below your means will make a happy and healthy marriage... guaranteed.
