How to deal with learning disabilities in basic writing skills

Children are not exclusively disabled by inadequate basic writing skills. Teenagers and adults also suffer from an inability to write using basic sentence structure, correct grammar and spelling. Depending on the individual's disability and their skills in writing, at best their disability can be reversed into a basic writing ability.

Don't be mistaken, when it comes to the preconception of ones intelligence, writing often strikes a sensitive chord. The person with the learning disability already knows they have such a disability; to be reminded of this only complicates ones best intentions to assist.

Overcoming the disability of basic writing skills is a slow and methodical step by step process that cannot be rushed. The first step is often the most difficult with never knowing how to break down the biggest wall. With any demolition, one brick at a time is the best process.

There are many community based classes and groups one can attend to overcome basic writing disabilities, yet acknowledging the problem is the most difficult. Start the person with the disability on a simple writing problem and subtle encouragement. Continue with the power of positive speech and reassurance.

The first and subsequent attempt at overcoming a disability with basic writing skills isn't rocket science, perseverance is the key. Slowly, yet surely progress will come quietly and subtly, but it will come just give it time, understanding and perseverance.
