My Wonder Boy, My Dog.
How to begin. After watching a hundred or so, episodes of Little House On The Prairie. Seeing the marvelous escapades of a character on the show, Laura Ingles and her lovely Border Collies, Jack and Bandit. I knew in my heart of hearts the perfect dog for me would just have to be a Border Collie.
The one thing the dog breeder said to me as I picked up my gorgeous pup from the farm was, don't let this puppy sit on your lap on the couch with you. Well i did not listen, and sure enough i ended up with a eighty pound lap dog. No matter. Dog's and laps go together.
I must tell you that my wonder boy, okay, dog, his name is Rasty-Jack. Rasty Jack is hands down my best friend. Rasty-Jack has all the known traits of a Border Collie. Smart as whip. Always fun to be with. His facial expressions, his smile especially is so endearing. The way he tilts his head when I tell him I love him, and offers a paw or a huge wet kiss, I just know he understands.
Rasty-Jack for the past ten years, has been with me through all my trials and tribulations. All of my happy days too. When he hangs his head down, when he has been up to mischief, and then winks and flashes a grin, I can never stay upset with Rasty-Jack for long.
The only small set back I do notice with my wonder boy, who I think craves to be a real boy, is our language barrier. Rasty understands English, he unfortunately has yet to speak it. Although I swear I have heard him occasionally say I wuv you and hello. That's okay, I don't speak dog, so I guess were even.
My wonder boy has taught me an incredible amount. Shared amazing knowledge with me, he really has. Like how to be a kid and enjoy romping around a park. He is my number one exercise buddy. He taught me that the quickest way to lose a few pounds is to run and toss a ball or a Frisbee.
Rasty-Jack and I even have a favorite song. You Are My Sunshine. I sing it to him every evening and he sings the song his way with me. Most of all he has taught me a lesson only dog owners, can really understand. That being unconditional love. A true blue companion.
Rasty-Jack, my wonder boy has a most precious place in my heart now and forever. My special boy. My Rasty. My best friend.
