THE WISHING WELL
The storekeeper had no dreams to sell,
so I bought a wish from the wishing well.
The water was cool and dark and deep.
The well was full of secrets to keep.
I looked to the bottom, then with a grin,
I quickly tossed my penny in.
I closed my eyes and scratched my head,
"I wish I was something else", I said.
"If I was a bird, I could live in a tree,
or maybe a fish, and swim through the sea.
If I was a lion, I'd growl and roar!"
I wished and wished, then wished some more.
I waited awhile, then suddenly,
the well threw my penny back to me!
And from the bottom, a voice was heard,
"You're not a lion, a fish, or a bird.
You're a special child and only you
can make your dreams and wishes come true."

Away they rush, swiftly gone

so I can spend that time with you,
