Body building should definitely not be mandatory for students-of any age. However, I do feel physical education should be compulsory.
From the moment a child is old enough to watch television, look through the daily newspaper, thumb through a magazine or surf the net, they are inundated with the "need" of being "body beautiful".
What I would rather see is that all children should be taught the importance of being physically active and how doing so benefits the present and future health. Having them get out of the classroom and do some form exercise is so important for their emotional and mental well-being. Plus, if they are given several options of what they can try, physically, then they will also start to care about what they eat, drink and do to their bodies.
Body building is but one form, they should also be exposed to the world of dance, tennis, basketball, soccer, baseball and many other ways to get out there and have not only some physical movement but fun as well.
