Cellulite is small deposits of fat under the tissue. It appears to be lumpy because the fat is pushing on the tissue directly under your skin. A person can have cellulite on any part of their body. The most common areas are the thighs, bottom and stomach. While more woman are affected by this unsightly blemish, men are also affected. Cellulite can appear as early as childhood. In childhood it is usually due to obesity. However as our bodies age our skin becomes less pliable and cellulite is more apt to rear its ugly lumps. Even the thinnest people have problem areas. It's not just a problem for people who are or have been overweight. While a proper diet and exercise will help reduce cellulite, some may choose a more aggressive route to rid themselves of it.
With today's technology, more and more non-invasive techniques are being introduced. Many spas pride themselves with their own "specialty" device to reduce or completely eliminate cellulite. Most of the treatments require three to six visits and can become costly.
BODY WRAPS
The age old spa treatment to reduce cellulite is still body wraps. A body wrap is a mixture of herbal remedies that is placed on a cloth(s) or applied directly to the body, then your body is wrapped in clean clothes and often a plastic is wrapped around the cloth. Some spas uses infrared lights to heat and keep the wrap warm, while some spas will massage the problem area.
Body wraps are fading quickly in the spa world as evidence of newer more advanced methods are becoming approved by the FDA. The problem with body wraps has always been that the client gained the "lost" weight back within a few days. Body wraps are a temporary fix to reduce a few inches and smooth the skin to make the appearance of cellulite less noticeable.
ELECTRIC STIMULATION
This has been around for a few years now. A low level of electricity is used to stimulate the flow of blood in the problem area, forcing the cellulite to break apart and is eventually flushed out of your body by the process of elimination.
LASER TREATMENT
This treatment has been around for a decade or so and as newer treatments emerge, laser treatment becomes more affordable. The laser is used to break down the fat deposits. This procedure is painless and takes about 30 minutes for a small area of cellulite.
VELASMOOTH
Is a recently new hand held device that uses rollers and suction. This device was designed at Westside Medical Spa, in Los Angeles, CA. The vela smooth uses Bi-Polar radiofrequency
