A lot of people go over the top for wedding proposals, but it is in one's best interest to keep it simple, and save money for the pending wedding!
It is best to go to a place that is special for the two of you, and a place that is attainable to revisit again after years have passed and expendable income may not be as plentiful.
A nice restaurant is always a nice choice, and calling ahead to give a head's up to the host will ensure proper ambiance and perhaps they will decorate the table beforehand. City parks are full of flowers, and nice fountains that give the memory a certain audible quality. For sports fans, there is always the scoreboard of your favorite local team game. Just make sure you know whether your partner will be on the same page with such a public display of your love. There is also always the beach or a tropical setting, but this runs the risk of being a bit cliche. Some couples that have already begun purchasing a house or a new construction home might think of getting engaged on their new property, at the sight of ground being broken.
Whatever the choice, it is important to remember that there will already be a lot of energy in the air, and the scenery will create a memorable backdrop on it's own. When my husband and I became engaged, a bat flew into the restaurant we were dining in and my new fiance helped shew it out the door! Best wishes in your endeavor!
