Is that you I hear calling out my name,
The same one with a cuddle for me?
Are you the one that would hold me at night,
The same one who told me stories when I was three?
I think I recall the fun times we once had,
Like when we danced for what seemed hours.
Are you the one who told me those jokes,
Did we play games with cards and make towers?
I don't recall you much at all,
You left me when I was five.
Now that you are dying,
I wish I could keep you alive.
Not knowing you is what hurts the most,
Yet I'm not sure how I should feel.
I think I should hate you but,
I try to make my wounds heal.
When you crawled away from us,
Dad found a new lover.
I must tell you that she's a real gem,
Yes of course, without a doubt I call her mother.
