I saw on the internet that Robert Kiyosaki was doing a group-study on the book A Whole New Mind, by Daniel H. Pink. I am a Kiyosaki fan ever since I saw him on the Oprah show when he was just releasing his Best Seller, Rich Dad Poor Dad. Since Robert was saying that I should read this, I figured that I would go down to my local library and pick up this book. I frequent the library often, and had a stack of books to read. I left A Whole New Mind in that stack for a good while, and then I realized that I needed to read is because someone else had requested it and I cannot renew it. So I picked it up the other night, and could not put it down.
Mr. Pink starts off Chapter One by going into detail about a medical experiment that he was a part of to determine how the brain works and reacts to certain situations. Then throughout the book Mr. Pink explains how we are moving from the Information Age, the left side of the brain thinking, to the Conceptual Age, the right side of the brain thinking. He says that three main factors have caused us to switch to this new age. They are Abundance, Asia and automation. This makes a lot of since because there are millions of people in Asia, notably India and China, that can do white collar jobs, left brain work, for a lot cheaper than it would to have the same jobs in the United States. Everyone must note these changes because it will free themselves up to do more right brain thinking (creating, inventing, building, etc.) and the force in Asia can do the automation of what you want to build or create. This is called globalization. It will not be a rapid change, but the change will be there none-the-less.
Mr. Pink suggests that we master right brain thinking by developing our high-concept, high touch senses, which are Design, Story, Symphony, Empathy, Play, and Meaning. What I love about this book is that after each section of the right brain senses, he gives a Portfolio on how you can build these senses to help motivate right brain thinking. He gives book to read, web sites to check out, clubs to join, magazines to read and more.
This book was a real eye-opener for me. I am lucky because I am a filmmaker, actor, and writer, and these all use the right side of the mind. I believe that the future is bringing your concept to life because in a decade or two, work will be in Asia and that is what you are going to have to live by. I highly recommend A Whole New Mind for anyone and everyone who wants to see this change that is taking place in this day and age.
