People need to be responsible for themselves. There is a time in our lives when every need we have is catered to without question... when we are infants. Personally, I don't like the idea of paying 50 percent or more of my income so that I can pay for everyone else's problems. I know this sounds a little harsh, but people need to start taking responsibility for their own well being. I'm not against temporary assistance for people in financial distress, but if you don't cut people off somewhere, they'll just keep coming back for more!
Instead of buying a new car every other year, or a house that is way outside your income level, maybe people should concentrate on putting money into savings, first. Americans have come to this "understanding" that if I don't have the money to survive, the government will provide what I need. This takes away work ethic! If you know the government is going to pay for your survival, what's the point in wasting your time at work?
Health care has been a sticky issue for some time now. The real problem is, we have too many people taking advantage of the assistance we have available now. If the people that are capable of working would get off their lazy butts and actually work, and the people who could afford their own health care pay for it; then we wouldn't be in this situation.
