Though I voted yes on this, I could have just as easily voted no. Not only is it a loaded question, it is a double edge sword. If you limit "individual" contributions, does that mean all the more power to corporate donations, or that, corporate donations won't be limited as well?
I have always maintained that in a true representative democracy, ALL political donations, both corporate and individual, and both "hard" and "soft" money, alike, should be banned. Ban lobbyists as well. This government is already "of the money", and not, "of the people" - with the best government money can buy on capitol hill. The people have only a minuscule fraction of the money corporations and their lobbyists do. Talk about an unlevel playing field that has almost become vertical! Corporate lobbyists, with their deep pockets and generous contributions to politicians, have already, long ago, corrupted and bought the entire government, and had the people, and their interests and needs, totally suppressed. The sum of all democracy has been captured.
We really need to look at the bigger picture of the damage political contributions do to our almost ancient and extinct democratic way of life.
