in underdeveloped nations will lack services and medical providers.
In order to effectively treat the patients and prevent further complications, hospitals and medical facilities must have sufficient amounts of antibiotics. But, according to a survey in the 1990s, only 19 percent of children with pneumonia received antibiotics. The diminishing percentages of the availability of antibodies emphasize the need for developed nations to offer more assistance. The third step calls for the creation of an organized system such that the patients can receive antibiotics at low costs while the producers can save their limited resources.
As the illness that hits under-fives harder than AIDS, malaria, and measles combined, pneumonia cannot continue to go unnoticed. Though the three-step plan described is being put into place by leading global health groups such as WHO, USAID, and UNICEF, the harsh reality remains that a lack of funds directed to pneumonia could bring strategies for action to a standstill. What donor spending exists is channeled through child health initiatives that address a broad range of issues. Donor spending activities must be strengthened and expanded in order to universally implement prevention and treatment interventions and save more than 1 million lives. With the $600 million that covers antibiotics alone, 600,000 children can be saved each year. The tools to solve the world's pneumonia issue exist. Are we ready to take the initiative?
