Possibly the most talented WR in the NFL, Randy Moss has had issues in the past with coaches and on- and off-the-field behavior issues. He has admitted to using marijuana (although he has never tested positive for it), he hit a traffic control officer with his car, pretended to moon the crowd in Lambeau Field, squirted an official with a water bottle, and has proclaimed "I play when I want to play." He struggled last year in Oakland, but did score almost half of his team's TD's through the air.
He also seems to want to be in New England, as he took a significant pay cut to convince the Patriots he was worth giving another chance. Tom Brady has already said several good things about him.
This is a great move for the New England Patriots. Tom Brady has never had a legitimate #1 receiver, but he has still had very good stats throughout his career. If you look at the QB's above him in most stats, Most of them have a stellar # 1 receiver, followed by two or three very good receivers who would be #2 at the lowest on most teams.
This is the first time Brady has had that. Here's what Moss's addition has done for Tom Brady's numbers through games:
Brady - 70 of 88 (79.5%) for 887 yds, 10.1 YPA, 10 TD's and a 141.8 rating (1 int)
And of course Moss's numbers:
22 rec, 403 yds (18.3/rec), 5 tds, including 3 receptions over 40 yards.
Also, remember how little of a risk this deal is. If he causes trouble, the Patriots release him, and all they gave up was a 4th round pick. IMO, if he retired right now he would be worth more than that, making this one of the best deals I've ever seen the Patriots make.
