I know where the government is coming from on this issue. If you are wearing a seat-belt, then chances are you will survive in an accident and will not get thrown from the car. If you get thrown from the car then the government has to pay for clean-up. Which is something they don't want to spend money on.

I know that the law is set forth to protect children. Many people to this day still don't make their kids buckle up or put them into carseats (look at Britney, perfect example). Children don't have the knowledge we have to know that it would save their lives if they put one on.

I don't believe that the government should tell us we have to wear a seat-belt or risk paying a $90 ticket (in Michigan). If we are stupid enough to travel 70 mph's down the freeway without a seat-belt and get into an accident then we only have ourselves to blame. I know that I ALWAYS wear mine, not just because it is the law. In town I wouldn't wear it if I didn't have to, but I would make my children.

I believe that the law could be revised that only people under 18 have to legally wear a seat-belt while in a vehicle. Those over 18 have their own choice.

Let me tell you about my best friend. He and three other people were in a car driving to fast on a dirt road. The driver hit a pothole and the car started rolling over. My friend was in the back seat, the ONLY one in the car to have his seat-belt on. Everyone was fine, no scrapes or bruises. Except my friend, the seat-belt broke his neck and he died instantly. If he had not been wearing his seat-belt, the accident report said, he would have walked away with everyone else that day. I didn't drive for 2 years after this accident, I was afraid the same thing would happen to me. I hated that I had to wear my seat-belt.

I didn't stop wearing it. I would have had there not been a law. I know where the government is coming from, but I think they have better things to worry about than if we are wearing our seat-belts.
