Many people believe in karma where the energy that we put out into this world comes back to us. That would explain why bad things would happen to bad people. But, what about when bad things happen to good people? Karma doesn't explain this phenomenon as well.
As we think about our existence on this planet, however, we find that we grow - physically, emotionally, and spiritually - over our lifetime. We don't begin life with all the answers. We don't even begin with some of the answers. We begin life as a blank page - to grow, to mature, are to learn along the way until we reach our creator.
If life were easy and nothing bad ever happened to us, how could we grow? By living with pain, we learn compassion. Seeds grow not only with sunshine, but with rain as well. If we ate only sweets, we would become ill and even die. We need good AND bad in our lives to make us COMPLETE, and to grow as a person with compassion and understanding for those around us.
Like Garth Brooks sings in his song: "Sometimes God's greatest gifts are unanswered prayers."
