Rodeos
Only with extreme disgust do I consider the horrific and inhumane 'entertainment' that are rodeos.
Animals are humiliated, tortured, maimed, and killed all in the name of public entertainment and sport. If this isn't bad enough anyone with a conscience who protests against such events - and has the nerve and courage to do so in person is in danger of the same treatment, thus providing further entertainment for the punters. I am referring to the case in Australia of Janet Allan, a protester who was severely assaulted at the Marrabel Rodeo in 2005.
This is sickening and disgusting to think that humans are still engaging in such cruel, barbaric practices. Well of course they are! US treatment of Iraqi prisoners of war! David Hicks! Are rodeos any different? Only that children get to watch, and our politicians - including our Animal Rights Minister - endorse these events.
Rodeos should be banned outright! No question. The people who support them, and argue in the name of tradition are nothing but stupid ignorant hillbillies. They should get a taste of their own medicine. How about a new form of rodeo which only have humans (namely the aforementioned rodeo supporters) who are tied up, prodded with electric rods, and beaten to death?
In the case of Mrs. Allan the rodeo participants who assaulted her, those who stood by and watched, as well as officials and organisers of the event, are criminals guilty of serious assault and should be given gaol sentences and hefty fines. NO ARGUMENT.
One final word. On tickets to a rodeo there is a disclaimer saying that these are dangerous events and the organisers accept no liability for injury.
It is ironic that in this day and age of public liability insurance - which seems to be closing down a lot of 'safe' events - such as a merry go round my daughter likes to ride on a rodeo can simply put a "you have more or less a 50% chance of leaving here on a stretcher or in a wooden box" clause on tickets and that's the end of it.
As I get older and wiser I only see the world as an uglier and uglier place, and human society becoming more evil and selfish.
