Choosing and remembering passwords for websites

Choosing and remembering passwords for websites can be difficult but their are some simple steps that will keep you secure and safe.

Advice on remembering passwords.

1. Know the level of security you need for the site. You may not need as secure of a password for a blog site as you would for an investing site.

2. Don't try to have different passwords for each and every site. For sites where security is not a concern you can reuse passwords. Just know that the more you reuse a password the less secure it is. Any site that has private personal data or financial data needs a secure and unique passwords your blog account doesn't. Create four or five passwords that you can remember. Create the passwords that you will use in such a way that you can associate them with the site you are accessing. For example a blog password might be something like this: Password:TiM1Bp Mnemonic ([T]his [i]s [M]y [1] [B]log [p]assword).

3. Does the site you are creating your password for have good security policies? Does it only allow you to enter 3-5 invalid attempts before disabling the account? Does it employ anti-phishing techniques? If the site does then you don't need as secure of a password.

4. Use mnemonics to make passwords easier to remember. Good passwords made with mnemonics are easier to remember and can be as secure as random passwords.

5. If you have to write down a password to remember it then you have defeated the whole purpose of making a secure password.

Here are some rules that can help you choose good passwords.

1. Don't forget the rules above. The better the sites security policy and the less important data on the site is the less secure your password has to be. For less secure sites and more important date a more secure password should be created.

2. Including numbers and special keys such as []!@#$%^&* will make the password more secure. Use caps and lower case letters.

3. Don't use anything that can be looked up in a dictionary or that simply replaces letters in a dictionary word with numbers or symbols. For example these are not good passwords: ca$h, b0b. Don't use passwords that someone who knows you could guess.

4.Use unique mnemonics to make sure you can remember passwords without writting them down. Don't use common phrases as mnemonics.

5. Never email or tell anyone your password. Don't reuse web passwords for things like bank accounts where you must tell an individual your password.

6. Whenever possible use unique passwords for each site. This rule is to be compromised
