A while ago a friend told me how she had heard about some studies on apple juice and asthma, how it is believed that drinking apple juice helps children not to develop the symptoms of it. She and I both suffer from really bad asthma. Well she mentioned that the past few years she hasn't had a problem and after hearing about the studies she noticed that since she's become a mom and has been drinking apple juice with her boys in the afternoons, she's been feeling a lot better. I thought it was worth a try.
Well I tried it out, I started by using frozen apple juice concentrate and making it in my own reusable container (much more eco-friendly than constantly buying the pre-made juice in the plastic containers that I'd only throw away). I drink a glass in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes if I feel the onset of my asthma symptoms I will drink some more apple juice. I didn't think much of it until I realized that my inhaler was running low and then realized that I my rescue inhaler had lasted me 9 weeks. I was so excited, all my life I have used two inhalers a month, so for one to last for 9 weeks is amazing! Not only that but I felt more overall clearer breathing and less chest tightness. I still have asthma symptoms but not nearly as severe or frequent as I had before.
So not only did the apple juice work great for me but it saved me money as well. I saved about $165 on inhalers! My lungs feel stronger and I can now get back to exercising, which I had not been able to do in quite a while due to my asthma. Another thing to note is that the studies show that it has to be the apple juice you use, not apples or apple sauce. Apparently there is some property that is only present when the apple is in its juice form.
