Every job is an opportunity for learning and growth. Being fired from a job might be one of the best things to ever happen to you. It gives you the chance to re-evaluate you life and your career. I know this actually happened to me.
Working for a law office and wanting to change the area of law that I worked in, I begin the dreadful job search. I wasn't really trying but I was looking. After meeting with a head hunter, I was offered an interview with a large law firm. I worked in Estate Planning at the time and this law firm focused on personal injury. Totally feeling out of my league I went to the job interview and impressed them enough that I got the job. Talk about being excited, I was learning a new field of law and getting $10,000 more a year to do it. Life couldn't get any better, right?
Nine months later it all ended. The head person in HR came into my office and blurted out the words "your services are no longer needed" being 24 at the time, I was shocked and literally ran to the woman's room and vomited. I just couldn't believe it, I was always being told what a good job I was doing and now this?
A month later I was moved back in with my parents. I hated it and on top of that I was focused on figuring out what I could have done better. After talking to a lot of friends and family, the realization hit me that I didn't do anything wrong, I just wasn't suited for that job. While working at a job I was not thrilled to be at, I continued my job search to find a job that was suited for me. After a few interviews and a few jobs I turned down I found one that fit.
Having a job you enjoy and enjoying the people you work with is now important to me. I still strive to do my best but getting fired form a job that I didn't really fit in helped me find a job that I love and gave me the opportunity to grown not only as a person but as an employee.
