Knowing what to pack when heading to a theme park pretty much varies with the time and distance travelled. In most cases you do not have to travel longer than one to two hours to head to a theme park. Ever since the theme parks have beefed up security, you really can't bring outside food and snacks with you. The theme parks have capitalized on the beefing up of security. When you get there, you're going to have to buy food and drinks from their vendors. They've made a killing in profits as a result as sodas can cost about one to two dollars each and so forth.
The food served at theme parks can get pretty costly as well. As for food and drinks, do not take them with you. Most theme parks will have a policy on bringing outside food and drinks. It's going to affect their profits for one. The next thing is the possibility of someone sneaking alcohol inside, getting drunk, and causing damage. Since it happens in the theme park, the owners are going to be held liable. Which is why most theme parks do not serve any alcohol. The Anheiser-Busch theme parks such as Busch Gardens and Sea World do have hospitality centers but the beer is non-alcoholic.
If you don't plan on eating any breakfast or lunch before heading out to a theme park, bring a few drinks and a few snacks with you to stave off thirst and hunger. With children, don't give them too much to drink or else you're going to have to make plenty of stops so they can use the bathroom. Bring like a bag of chips or something with you to temporary stave off hunger when driving to the theme park.
The important thing is that you have your entry passes and identification with you. But you can always buy tickets at the frontgate but you're going to be waiting awhile in line. That can become a total pain. Tickets and identification should be your first. If you already have the tickets, keep them in a very safe place.
Bring medicine with you. If you or anybody else going with you is on medication, bring the necessary medicine with you. From personal experience, that's one of the most important things to bring with you.
Spending money is important because you're going to have to buy food and drinks within the theme park in most cases. On food and drinks alone, the prices can get pretty hefty. It helps if and when you feel like buying a few souvenirs to remember the trip. Souvenirs cost a lot as well. Theme parks have made a profit selling souvenirs such as plushies to adults who want to buy them for their kids.
