Rejected from college...

by MKRock

Rejected from college - after 2 1/2 years of undergraduate studies and a 3.75 GPA.

It is one thing to be a rising junior or senior in high school and be rejected from a college or university based upon entrance requirements or poorly written entrance essays. To be shoved out of a college or university one has been accepted, is a rising junior, and has been maintaining a 3.6 - 4.0 GPA, is unthinkable.

Many persons in this wealthiest of all nations-the great USA-do not have the ways or means to attend a college or university after high school. When the opportunity to do so presents itself, and the challenge is accepted by the student, it behooves each and every college or university to do everything possible to support that student and assist in the educational processes whatever they may be. To deliberately and systematically reject a student, and ultimately shove a student out of the university because of personal bias or blatant bigotry goes against every moral and ethical value this country is based upon.

There are some universities, mostly of the private, liberal arts variety, that will accept anyone with a high enough SAT/ACT score or who is older than 25 with a GED. These colleges and universities, however, do not necessarily acclimate well to older students who present with disabilities, world views that differ from theirs, or a greater overall knowledge of a specific subject than the instructors who have been hired therein to teach. One such liberal arts university in Missouri has a long track record of abuse and discrimination against such type students and for blatantly rejecting and shoving these students out the front door regardless of their GPA or financial standings.

Personal experience is a formidable professor that clarifies issues through hindsight and pain. If one is looking to apply to a specific college or university, one would do well to fully research and investigate the institution's "behaviors toward students" and request alumni references as well as non-alumni-former-student references regarding such issues as faculty behaviors toward 'special' students, older students, and previously well educated students. Additionally, to assist in the prevention of the possibility of future rejection by a college or university, applicants should avail themselves of every opportunity to increase individual awareness of the chosen college or university's parameters for conflict resolution, formal grievance procedures, and possible ramifications thereof prior to submitting any monies to the institution.

To each and every prospective student across the country-and beyond, buyer beware! Do your homework before you jump. Do your math! and be certain you have researched your choice of colleges or universities fully and completely.
