Search engine evolution: Where they started and where they are today

AOL are and will be ones mostly used by searchers, with Ask Jeeves, Overture (GoTo), InfoSpace, Netscape, AltaVista, Lycos, EarthLink.com, LookSmart etc. used by some of the researchers. Now, the situation is that the search engine business is mainly controlled by the powerful serveral Kindgoms of the Search Engine, including google, yahoo, MSN, AOL etc. The new trends are popping up, such as further localization, specialization, SEO etc.

We expect the search engines offer us more convenient service, more specialized service, and more localized service, no matter what the search engine companies want to do to survive, or to lead the competition.
