Satire: Politics

Why Women Should Rule the World (Or Why Men Start Wars)

In many current scientific and philosophical fields, the present is the key to the past. In Geology as an example, we use the present to explain the formation of geological features millions of years old (*cough* Grand Canyon). More than anything else Anthropology can look to modern day human behaviour and cultures to interpret how we would have behaved in our past. Despite capturing fire and condensing it into a little small plastic tube we use to light rolled-up dried weeds, which we then smoke and shorten our life expectancy, we haven't changed much at all from our Stone Age ancestors. Even though the lighting of a fire has progressed to produce roast beef and Yorkshire puddings, we're still the same people. Technological development is not the same as evolution. You would have as much in common (some more than others) with the wild Celt walking through the open balmy bogs of Tullamore 3000 years ago as you would your next door neighbour.

And so, even as a hardened atheist, I still find it necessary to use the preceding 159 words to justify comparing my life with that of Jesus (the guy from 2006 years ago, not the guy working at you local video store) for fear of upsetting anyone. It's not as if you can really blame me considering relatively recent events, but by extrapolating how I am and how I operate, the people who I know and how they operate, I reckon I can get a new sense for where religion comes from. We only have religion in the Abrahamic sense for two reasons. Some guys have small nobs and some guys can't get laid.

My own personal wish is that we really were ruled by women and that each and everyone head of state was a woman. This isn't just part of a particular sexual fantasy of mine (though there have been dreams of me trapped in an Amazonian ruled UN HQ), but from a point of view that we would all just be bloody well better off and happier. Ok, history says one thing and one thing only "Thatcher". True, as extreme despots and tyrants go, some of her male international counter parts were pussycats in comparison. But, then I'm not talking about this cold masculine persona and thinking that many women seem to have to portray to punch above their glass ceiling of success. I'm talking about our mums ruling the world.

Right, here we could queue up with some wise cracks almost verging on the sexists about the difference a world under female control would be. Though perhaps with some
