Cholesterol: When is it time for medication?

The time to think about getting medicated to lower your cholesterol is when diet and exercise aren't enough to lower it naturally.

Cholesterol levels are affected by what you eat and how active you are, but they also depend on if you have a family history of high cholesterol. I know from experience, that I can eat as healthy as I want and exercise three to five times a week, which I do, and yet I still can't get my cholesterol below 200.

There is no shame in getting the proper medication prescribed to help reduce your cholesterol levels. I had some concerns at first, but realized that if I wanted to live a long and healthy life, that this was a change I was going to have to make. Do I enjoy taking medication every single day? No. But having a young family and getting educated on the long term affects of having high cholesterol, made me realize that this was something that I needed to do.

I urge anyone that hasn't been tested for high cholesterol to get tested and try diet and exercise to lower it if it is high. However, if that isn't enough discuss the possibility of going on a lowering medication, with your doctor, to see what works best for you.
