Looking good is never "Cheap." Without a doubt, one of the most common ways to improve the styling of your ride is to update it's wheel and tire combination. That's right I said "wheel and tire." Although the temptation is to run out and slap some new rubber on your factory rims, that may not be the end of the experience. Here are some things to keep in mind when looking for new shoes for your baby:
1) What is the safety issues that this will bring up? Make sure the selected tires fit the existing rims (wheels) you currently have on your car, or look to replace those as well with an appropriate set. Your installer can help you with this.
2) How long will these new tires last? It's not uncommon for these new lower profile tires to be "higher performance." Keep in mind however, that this may mean shorter life... think race car tires as an extreme. Very high performance, but literally very short distance before they need to be changed again.
3) What will I do with my previous set? Most retailers/installers offer to take them off your hands, for a fee of course.
4) Should I buy them in a store? Maybe... if you can narrow down what you want and it will fit, feel free to hit up some of the Internet sites like tirerack.com for their prices. You will still need to have it installed, but this is sometimes a great way to save a little on this new investment. Additionally, tirerack.com also has great tools to show you which tires fit your vehicle.
Armed with those tips, selecting a new set of tire, lower or otherwise, should be a snap.
