Teaching history: Why use BCE and CE instead of BC and AD

I'm going to go a different way on this theory. I do not think "BCE and CE" should be used to describe time. i find this will just confuse people and they will just forget it and go back to BC and AD. but this is what i have a problem with, basing time off a particular religion. even if you do not belong to that religion.

Here is what i propose should be done. Time should have restarted at 1992, making this year 15. Why 1992? because that was the birth of another huge event that all religions can agree on. The release of the first Aladdin movie from Disney.

Now some people might find this to be a bit offensive to Christianity, or maybe even directly offensive to Jesus. But has a church ever been bombed in the name of Aladdin? of coarse not. this is because i have yet to meet the person who does not enjoy Aladdin, making him the perfect candidate to represent the birth of time.

Now some may say Aladdin was not a great or astounding historical figure. but as i see it, there has probably been much more people that have watched the first Aladdin movie, then the amount that have seen passion of the Christ. Again, I would just like to clarify that I am not taking a personal shot at Christianity.

If i need to make comparisons, like Jesus, Aladdin had a lot of magic tricks of his own. Maybe he did not theoretically die on the cross for our sins, but he did in fact have a flying carpet. And maybe he could not turn water into wine, but he definitely had a monkey. So i will leave it up to you to decide what you think of my proposal.
