Tips for decorating your buffet table

"If it looks good, it tastes good". Those the immortal words of my Chief Steward, John Brown when I was a young cook in the Merchant Marines. He would repeat those words almost daily as he stressed the importance of garnishing and presentation in food preparation. Decorating a buffet table can be an exciting opportunity for you to explore your creative side and express your flare for the extravagant in fine dining or just spice up a family dinner. Start with bold colors to create rich and interesting contrasts like deep red tomato-peel roses on beds of leafy bright green kale placed around the serving dishes. Experiment with textures and shapes by turning a veggie tray into kaleidoscope of shapes like julienne cut carrot sticks and half moon cuts of zucchini and fresh summer squash off-set by a melody of interestingly arranged melodies of broccoli and cauliflower. Consider visiting a local crafts store to purchase a ice mold of a swan for a dazzling inexpensive center-piece. Consider using lace dollies under small condiment dishes for a touch of elegance. These are just a few tips you might want to try when you decorate your next buffet table. Dare to be different and let your imagination run wild!
