What Got Into That Bear?
What would you do if you had just caught enough fish for dinner and had a hungry bear invite himself to your campsite?
Jim had returned from fishing at Lake George. He built a fire in the fire pit and began to clean the few pan-size trout he had spent most of the day catching. There was a crunch of pine needles causing Jim to scan the area around his camp; he saw nothing to cause any alarm.
With the trout cleaned, Jim placed them on a sheet of aluminum foil wrapping them securely. He placed the wrapped trout on the grill, turning them every few minutes.
The succulent aroma made his mouth water.
A loud rustle made Jim look up; within seconds a large black bear came lumbering into view. The bear lumbered up the incline below Jim's camp, he turned heading straight towards Jim's dinner, at a brisk pace.
Jim eyed his dinner, the bear was closing in on the camp: An ingenious thought came to him. He took his fish off the grill, unwrapping them he dumped them onto a plate.
He wadded the aluminum foil into a ball.
The big bear was coming in on the lope! The uninvited dinner guest was only about ten feet away! Jim heaved the hot foil at the bear. It fell about three feet in front of the hungry bruin; in one impulsive lunge he leaped upon it. Hastily he grabbed the foil in his mouth. A pitiful howl could be heard throughout the camp.
Dropping the foil quicker than he had snatched it up the bear turned, blinding racing down the hillside towards Lake Mary, crashing through several camp sites. One lady made a mad dive into her tent just as the bear barreled past her. A little ways down the hillside another lady leaped upon the hood of her pick-up truck as the bear whizzed past her. There was a loud crash followed by some appropriate swear words as the bear mangled another camper's ice chest.
At the foot of the hill the bear made a dive into the icy waters of Lake Mary. There he was seen frantically thrashing about the water, growling and gurgling.
Jim re-wrapping his fish placed them back on the grill. He chuckled to himself hearing a neighboring camper remark, "What got into that bear?"
