Easy ways your family can "go green"

Most families don't even realize how easy it is to go green. There are a few immediate things you can do to help right away. Doing these simple steps will help the environment and make you feel better at the same time. Try to keep in mind that each of us generates about 4.5 pounds of waste per person.

1) For starters you can get separate containers in your house next to the kitchen garbage. These containers are for paper and glass/plastic. In my opinion these containers need to be right next to the trash as if to remind you "Hey don't even think about throwing that can in the regular trash".

2) Another great little trick is to head down to your power company and see if they have any promotions going on to lessen energy consumption. My company gives away free energy saver bulbs on every visit.

3) And last but not least; Open the windows in the summer and fall. There are many benefits to opening the windows. Air circulation is increased and it helps disperse Radon if its building up inside. By opening the windows you should be able to cut down on your air conditioning bills.

4) Buy reusable bags for the grocery store. Using reusable bags over your lifetime can help eliminate some serious waste. And why not? These bags are used mainly to transport items from one location to the next.

5) Use public transportation. Save some gas and combine efforts. The less each person uses their vehicle(s) then the less overall waste that is produced.

Today is the day. Today is the day you will go green. Living green doesn't mean eating sprouts and living in a hut with no running water. Living green is a choice in your life. A choice where you make decisions on how to live responsibly.

Very simply put: The Earth needs help cleaning up after us.

These simple steps can help the environment and don't impact the wallet too much. So keep on the look out for recyclable items and next time you go to the grocery store bring your own bags. We are a tad bit behind since we've been creating waste from a few centuries now. While waste conservation is generally new.
